Speed Math

Speed Math is mental arithmetic with the thinking time removed. An equation appears, you answer it, the next one arrives. There is no board to read and no strategy to plan — the only variable is how fast you can actually compute.

The rank ladder is where it gets serious. Beginner gives you eight seconds a question, which is generous. Master gives you three and a half, which is roughly the time it takes to read the question and commit.

How to play

  1. An equation appears on screen.
  2. Answer it before the per-question timer runs out.
  3. Correct answers chain into a streak; a wrong answer or a timeout breaks it.
  4. The overall session runs against its own clock, from 30 seconds at Beginner down to 20 at Master.

Scoring and XP

How to get better at Speed Math

Round, then correct

For anything involving larger numbers, round to something friendly, compute that, then adjust. Working out 48 + 37 as 50 + 37 minus 2 is faster than doing it properly, and at three and a half seconds faster is the only thing that matters.

Answer the shape, not the sum

You often do not need the full answer to pick the right one — the last digit or the rough magnitude is enough to eliminate everything else. Train yourself to look for the cheapest distinguishing feature.

Do not chase a broken streak

Losing the 1.5x at question nine stings, and the instinct is to speed up to rebuild it. That is how sessions end early. The multiplier will come back; a run of panicked wrong answers will not.

Common questions

What kind of maths appears?

Easy arithmetic at the lower ranks, moving to mixed operations at Master. Nothing requires paper — everything is designed to be solvable mentally inside the time limit if you use estimation.

Should I rank up in Speed Math?

Only if your accuracy holds. Master pays 16 XP a question but gives you 3.5 seconds. If that drops your correct rate below about two thirds, Advanced at five seconds earns you more per session.
